Privacy policy
Privacy policy
Last updated: September 2026 · The German version is authoritative.
I run a one-person workshop. This policy explains which personal data is processed when you visit this shop or place an order, for what purpose, on what legal basis, who receives it and how long it is kept.
1. Controller
PrintableArtForge, owner Joel KilbMecklenburgerstraße 4, 64297 Darmstadt, Germany
Phone: +49 178 8269995
Email: support@printableartforge.com
A data protection officer is not required by law. For any privacy question, an email to the address above is enough.
2. Shop platform and visiting the website
The shop runs on Shopify. For merchants in Europe the provider is Shopify International Limited, Victoria Buildings, 1–2 Haddington Road, Dublin 4, D04 XN32, Ireland. Shopify stores and processes the shop's data as a processor on my behalf.
Each page request involves technically necessary data: IP address, date and time, requested URL, browser and operating system, referring page. This is used to deliver the page, keep it secure and prevent abuse. The legal basis is my legitimate interest in a secure, working shop (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Shopify determines how long these logs are kept.
Shopify also transfers data to Shopify Inc. in Canada (EU adequacy decision) and to service providers in the United States (EU-US Data Privacy Framework where certified, otherwise standard contractual clauses).
Fonts and the 3D viewer are loaded from Shopify or from the shop itself, not from Google or other third parties.
3. Overview: who receives data
I only pass on data where the purpose requires it or you have consented. Recipients are the service providers named below — as processors under a contract pursuant to Art. 28 GDPR or, where they act on their own account (payment providers, carriers, customs authorities, advertising platforms), as independent controllers. Where a recipient is outside the EU, I state the basis for the transfer with that service.
4. Cookies and similar technologies
The shop stores information on your device or reads it (cookies, local storage). Strictly necessary, and permitted without consent (§ 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG), are: shopping cart, checkout, language and country settings, security, and storing your cookie choice.
Everything else — analytics and advertising (section 12) — is only activated after you consent in the cookie banner (§ 25(1) TDDDG, Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). You can withdraw or change your consent at any time with effect for the future via the “Cookie settings” or “Your privacy choices” link at the bottom of every page.
5. Orders and customer account
For an order I process your name, delivery and billing address, email address, phone number where given, the items ordered, and payment and shipping status. The legal basis is performance of the contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) and compliance with legal obligations, in particular record-keeping (Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR). Without this information I cannot conclude the contract.
A customer account is optional. If you create one, I keep the details until you ask for the account to be deleted (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
Invoices and accounting records are kept in Lexware Office (Haufe-Lexware GmbH & Co. KG, Munzinger Str. 9, 79111 Freiburg, Germany) as a processor.
Orders you place through a marketplace (such as Etsy) are imported into the shop to fulfil them. Processing on the marketplace itself is governed by its own privacy policy.
6. Payment
You enter payment details directly with the payment provider; I only receive the confirmation and the information needed for bookkeeping. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR. Depending on the method you choose:
- Card, SEPA direct debit, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Shop Pay via Shopify Payments; the payment service provider is Stripe Payments Europe, Limited, 1 Grand Canal Street Lower, Dublin 2, Ireland. With Apple Pay and Google Pay, Apple or Google also process the payment under their own terms; with Shop Pay, Shopify does.
- PayPal: PayPal (Europe) S.à r.l. et Cie, S.C.A., 22–24 Boulevard Royal, 2449 Luxembourg.
- Klarna (invoice, instalments, pay now): Klarna Bank AB (publ), Sveavägen 46, 111 34 Stockholm, Sweden. Before a purchase on invoice Klarna checks your identity and creditworthiness and partly decides automatically (Art. 22 GDPR). You have the right to obtain human review, to express your point of view and to contest the decision — with Klarna. Details are in Klarna's privacy notice.
Deposits and balance payments for personalised orders are managed with the app Depo (Sidepanda Services LLP, India), which receives the order data needed for this. The transfer to India is based on the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.
7. Shipping, customs and import charges
For delivery I pass your name and delivery address to the carrier: Deutsche Post AG (DHL), Charles-de-Gaulle-Str. 20, 53113 Bonn, Germany. In the destination country the local postal service often makes the final delivery. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR.
Within the EU I only pass on your email address or phone number for delivery notifications if you have agreed to this (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). For shipments outside the EU, customs and carriers require the recipient's contact details; passing them on is then necessary to perform the contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
For deliveries to the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, Shopify calculates duties and import taxes at checkout. For this and for the customs declaration, your name, address, a description of the goods and their value are sent to the customs authorities of the destination country. This transfer is necessary to perform the contract (Art. 49(1)(b) GDPR).
Shipping labels are created with shipping software that receives your name and address: Post & DHL Shipping (DHL), easyDHL (247APPS, Germany) and ShipStation (Auctane, USA; transfer based on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or standard contractual clauses).
8. Personalised orders and photos
For a figure made from a photo you send me photos and information for the design. I use them solely to make your order (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). I do not analyse faces technically and do not use the photos to identify anyone.
I delete photos and 3D files 90 days after delivery or after the order ends, unless you expressly ask me to keep them longer — for example for a repeat order.
I only show your finished figure in the portfolio, on the website or on social media if you have expressly agreed (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). You can withdraw that consent at any time; I will then remove the image from my own channels.
If the photos show other people, please make sure they agree to their use.
Photos you send through an upload form in the shop itself are stored with Shopify.
9. Contact and enquiries
If you email me, use a contact or request form, or call, I process your details and any files you send to answer your enquiry — under Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR for enquiries about an order, otherwise under Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. I delete the enquiry once it has been dealt with; if it leads to an order, the periods in section 14 apply.
For messages in the shop I use Shopify's messaging function.
10. Withdrawal via the withdrawal button
You can also declare withdrawal from a contract using the withdrawal button in the shop. This function is provided by the app EU Widerruf Button (401layers UG (haftungsbeschränkt), Germany). The information you enter there, such as order number, name and email address, is processed to handle the withdrawal (Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR).
11. Reviews
Reviews are collected and displayed with Judge.me (Judge.me Ltd., United Kingdom; EU adequacy decision).
- You only receive an email asking for a review if you have consented (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR).
- If you write a review, it is published with your first name and the initial of your last name, and a photo if you add one. The legal basis is your consent. You can ask for deletion at any time.
- Displaying reviews in the shop loads content from Judge.me, which transmits your IP address (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, interest in showing genuine customer reviews).
12. Analytics and advertising — only with consent
With your consent in the cookie banner (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, § 25(1) TDDDG) I measure how the shop is used and make my products visible on other platforms. The following services set cookies or pixels and receive usage data such as pages viewed, cart and purchase events, device and browser data and your IP address:
- Google (Google Analytics, Google Ads, Merchant Center, store widget): Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland.
- Meta (Facebook, Instagram): Meta Platforms Ireland Limited, Merrion Road, Dublin 4, D04 X2K5, Ireland. For collection via the pixel I am jointly responsible with Meta (Art. 26 GDPR); Meta is the central point of contact for your rights.
- TikTok: TikTok Technology Limited, 10 Earlsfort Terrace, Dublin, D02 T380, Ireland.
- Pinterest: Pinterest Europe Limited, Palmerston House, 2nd Floor, Fenian Street, Dublin 2, Ireland.
These providers also transfer data to the United States and other third countries, based on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework (where certified) or standard contractual clauses. None of these services is active without your consent.
13. Newsletter and waiting list
If you join a waiting list or sign up for the newsletter, I send you product news by email (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). You confirm the sign-up via a link in an email (double opt-in); I keep the time and IP address of the sign-up as proof. You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in every email. Emails are sent via Shopify.
14. How long data is kept
- Invoices and accounting records: 8 years; business correspondence (such as order confirmations): 6 years, each from the end of the calendar year (§ 147 AO, § 257 HGB).
- Other order data: until warranty and possible claims have expired, usually 3 years from the end of the year of delivery.
- Photos and 3D files for personalised orders: 90 days after delivery (section 8).
- Enquiries without an order: until dealt with, at the latest after one year.
- Customer account, newsletter, consents: until you delete the account, unsubscribe or withdraw; proof of a consent is then kept for as long as it may be legally required.
- Cookie choice: 12 months.
15. Your rights
You have the right of access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20), and to withdraw any consent with effect for the future (Art. 7(3)). An email to support@printableartforge.com is enough.
Right to object (Art. 21 GDPR). Where I process data on the basis of my legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR), you may object at any time on grounds relating to your particular situation. You may object to processing for direct marketing at any time without giving reasons; I will then no longer use your data for that purpose.
You may also lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR). The authority responsible for me is: Der Hessische Beauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit, Gustav-Stresemann-Ring 1, 65189 Wiesbaden, Germany.
16. Automated decisions
I do not make automated decisions within the meaning of Art. 22 GDPR. An exception may be Klarna's credit check for purchases on invoice (section 6).
17. Customers outside the EU
This policy applies to all customers, whatever their country. If you live in the United Kingdom, you have the same rights under the UK GDPR, and you may also contact the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO). Customers in the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand can exercise their rights in the same way via the email address above. I do not sell personal data.
18. Changes
If the services I use or the law change, I will update this policy. The version published here applies.
Terms of service
Terms and conditions
Translation for information. The German version is the binding text.
§ 1 Scope and definitions
(1) These terms apply to all contracts for the delivery of 3D-printed products and for 3D design services between PrintableArtForge, owner Joel Kilb (the "Seller") and the customer (the "Customer").
(2) A consumer is any natural person entering into the contract for purposes largely outside their trade, business or profession (§ 13 BGB). An entrepreneur acts in the exercise of their trade, business or profession (§ 14 BGB).
(3) Deviating terms of the Customer do not become part of the contract unless the Seller expressly agrees to them in text form.
§ 2 Conclusion of contract
(1) The presentation of products in the online shop is not a binding offer but an invitation to order.
(2) By clicking the "Buy now — payment obligation" button, the Customer makes a binding offer to purchase the goods in the cart.
(3) The Seller confirms receipt of the order by email without delay. This acknowledgement of receipt is not yet an acceptance of the offer. The contract is concluded once the Seller expressly declares acceptance or dispatches the goods; for personalised work at the latest when the 3D preview is sent for approval. Where a payment method with immediate payment is used (PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Shop Pay), the contract is concluded when the Customer instructs the payment.
(4) The Seller stores the contract text and sends it to the Customer by email together with these terms and the withdrawal instructions. Past orders are additionally visible in the customer account.
(5) The technical steps leading to the contract, the entry of order data and the correction of input errors follow from the ordering process: before you submit, a summary page shows all your entries; they can be corrected there using the usual browser and mouse functions and the edit buttons.
(6) The contract language is German. English versions are provided for clarity; the German text prevails.
§ 3 Subject matter
(1) Our range covers personalised 3D designs from photographs, hand-painted statues and figurines in UV resin, and other 3D-printed products.
(2) Statues are produced by 3D printing in UV resin and then hand-painted with acrylic paint.
(3) Agreed condition of hand-painted pieces
Hand-painted pieces are individual items. Slight variations in painting, colour intensity and brushwork, as well as production-related tolerances in surface and shade, are an expressly agreed characteristic and not a defect, as long as function and overall impression are not materially impaired. For consumers this is additionally shown and confirmed separately before the order is placed (§ 476(1) sentence 2 BGB).
§ 4 Personalised and custom work
(1) The Customer provides suitable photographs and all information needed for the design.
(2) The Seller creates an individual 3D design from them and sends the Customer a digital preview for approval. The preview includes up to two rounds of corrections within the scope of what was agreed.
(3) Free cancellation within 24 hours. The Customer may cancel a personalised or custom order free of charge within 24 hours of placing it by notice in text form (for example by email). All payments made are refunded in full.
(4) Ending the order before approval. After those 24 hours, the Customer may still end the contract as long as they have not approved the 3D preview. In that case the Seller retains 50 % of the order price as flat-rate compensation for the design work carried out; any amount paid above that is refunded. The Customer is expressly entitled to prove that no loss was incurred or that it is substantially lower than the flat rate. The flat rate does not apply if the preview does not correspond to what was agreed and the Seller does not remedy this within the correction rounds under (2); in that case the Customer may withdraw from the contract and all payments are refunded.
(5) Production after approval. Physical production starts only after the Customer has approved the preview and, where § 5 (4) applies, has paid the balance. If the Customer ends the contract after approval, the Seller is entitled to the agreed price less the expenses saved as a result (§ 648 BGB). Changes requested after approval cannot be taken into account.
(6) The Customer warrants that they hold all necessary rights to the photographs supplied and that their use does not infringe third-party rights, in particular copyright and personality rights. The Customer indemnifies the Seller against third-party claims arising from an infringement of those rights.
(7) Personalised and custom work is excluded from the statutory right of withdrawal; see § 8 and the withdrawal instructions.
§ 5 Prices and payment
(1) All prices are final prices. The Seller's turnover is exempt from VAT under § 19 UStG (small business rule); VAT is therefore neither charged nor shown.
(2) Shipping costs are additional and are shown separately before the order is completed.
(3) The payment methods offered in the shop apply. Where payment on invoice is used, the price is due in full within 14 days of the invoice date.
(4) For personalised and custom work with an order value of €250 or more (or the equivalent in the currency of the order), 50 % of the price is payable as a deposit when the order is placed; the Seller starts the digital model once the deposit has been received. The remaining 50 % is due on approval of the 3D preview, before physical production starts. For orders below €250 the full price is payable when the order is placed. The Customer is informed of the payment terms before placing the order.
(5) If the Customer is in default of payment, the statutory rules apply.
§ 6 Delivery
(1) Delivery is made to the address given by the Customer. We deliver to the countries listed in the shipping policy.
(2) The delivery time consists of 2 working days processing plus the transit time for the destination country stated in the shipping policy (working days Monday to Friday). With advance payment the period starts on the day after the payment instruction, otherwise on the day after the contract is concluded.
(3) For personalised and custom work the delivery time is longer for production reasons; the expected duration is stated on the product page and starts when the preview is approved and any balance under § 5 (4) has been paid.
(4) Shipping costs depend on the destination country and the shipping option chosen; they are listed in the shipping policy and shown separately before the order is completed. For deliveries outside the European Union, import duties and taxes may be charged by the destination country; unless shown at checkout, they are payable by the Customer.
§ 7 Retention of title
The goods remain the property of the Seller until payment has been made in full.
§ 8 Right of withdrawal
(1) Consumers have the statutory right of withdrawal. Details are set out in the withdrawal instructions.
(2) There is no right of withdrawal for contracts for the supply of goods that are not prefabricated and for the manufacture of which an individual choice or decision by the consumer is decisive, or which are clearly tailored to the consumer's personal needs (§ 312g(2) No. 1 BGB). This covers personalised 3D designs from photographs and custom work made to customer specification.
(3) Hand-painted statues and figurines from our standard range are not excluded — not even where you choose between offered finishes or sizes. They can be returned as usual.
§ 9 Liability for defects
(1) The statutory rules on defects apply. Claims for newly manufactured goods become time-barred two years after delivery.
(2) The variations described in § 3(3) are not a defect.
(3) For personalised designs from photographs, the result depends on the quality of the photographs supplied. The Seller points out clearly unsuitable source material before production.
§ 10 Care and safety
(1) UV resin products should not be exposed to permanent direct sunlight; this can cause discolouration.
(2) The statues are decorative objects, not toys. Keep them out of the reach of small children.
(3) Clean with a soft, dry cloth. Aggressive cleaning agents damage the paintwork.
§ 11 Liability
(1) The Seller is liable without limitation for intent and gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, where a guarantee has been given, and under the German Product Liability Act.
(2) In cases of slight negligence the Seller is liable only for breach of a material contractual obligation — one whose fulfilment makes proper performance of the contract possible in the first place and on whose observance the Customer may regularly rely. In such cases liability is limited to the foreseeable damage typical for this type of contract.
(3) Liability is otherwise excluded.
§ 12 Copyright in the designs
(1) The 3D designs, models and files created by the Seller remain the Seller's intellectual property. The Customer acquires ownership of the physical object delivered.
(2) Reproducing the designs, casting or copying the delivered objects, and passing on or exploiting the underlying files are not permitted.
(3) The Customer's right to resell or give away the object purchased is unaffected.
§ 13 Data protection
Personal data is processed in accordance with our privacy policy.
§ 14 Dispute resolution
We are neither obliged nor willing to take part in dispute resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board (§ 36 VSBG).
§ 15 Final provisions
(1) German law applies, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. For consumers this choice of law applies only to the extent that it does not deprive them of the protection afforded by mandatory provisions of the law of the country in which they have their habitual residence.
(2) If the Customer is a merchant, a legal person under public law or a special fund under public law, the place of jurisdiction for all disputes arising from the contractual relationship is the Seller's registered office.
(3) Should a provision be invalid, the validity of the remaining provisions is unaffected.
Refund policy
Withdrawal instructions
For consumers · following the statutory model (Annex 1 to Art. 246a § 1(2) sentence 2 EGBGB)
Right of withdrawal
You have the right to withdraw from this contract within fourteen days without giving any reason.
The withdrawal period is fourteen days from the day on which you, or a third party other than the carrier named by you, took possession of the goods. If you ordered several goods in one order which are delivered separately, the period starts on the day on which you, or a third party other than the carrier named by you, took possession of the last of the goods.
To exercise your right of withdrawal you must inform us
PrintableArtForge, owner Joel KilbMecklenburgerstraße 4, 64297 Darmstadt, Germany
Phone: +49 178 8269995
Email: support@printableartforge.com
by means of a clear statement (for example a letter sent by post, or an email) of your decision to withdraw from this contract. You may use the model withdrawal form for this, but it is not obligatory.
To meet the withdrawal deadline it is sufficient for you to send your communication concerning your exercise of the right of withdrawal before the withdrawal period has expired.
Effects of withdrawal
If you withdraw from this contract, we shall reimburse to you all payments received from you, including the costs of delivery (with the exception of the supplementary costs resulting from your choice of a type of delivery other than the least expensive type of standard delivery offered by us), without undue delay and in any event not later than fourteen days from the day on which we are informed about your decision to withdraw from this contract. We will carry out such reimbursement using the same means of payment as you used for the initial transaction, unless you have expressly agreed otherwise; in any event, you will not incur any fees as a result of such reimbursement.
We may withhold reimbursement until we have received the goods back or you have supplied evidence of having sent back the goods, whichever is the earliest.
You shall send back the goods or hand them over to us without undue delay and in any event not later than fourteen days from the day on which you communicate your withdrawal from this contract to us. The deadline is met if you send back the goods before the period of fourteen days has expired.
You will have to bear the direct cost of returning the goods.
You are only liable for any diminished value of the goods resulting from the handling other than what is necessary to establish the nature, characteristics and functioning of the goods.
Exclusion of the right of withdrawal
There is no right of withdrawal for contracts for the supply of goods that are not prefabricated and for the manufacture of which an individual choice or decision by the consumer is decisive, or which are clearly tailored to the consumer's personal needs (§ 312g(2) No. 1 BGB). This covers:
- personalised 3D figurines and busts made from your photographs,
- custom work made to customer specification.
Hand-painted statues and figurines from our standard range are not covered by this; for them the right of withdrawal applies without restriction.
Cancelling a personalised or custom order
Although there is no statutory right of withdrawal for personalised and custom work, we offer the following:
- Within 24 hours of placing your order you can cancel free of charge. Just email support@printableartforge.com. Everything you have paid is refunded in full.
- After 24 hours, before you approve the 3D preview: you can still end the order, but we keep 50 % of the order price for the design work already done.
- After you approve the 3D preview your piece goes into physical production. If you end the order after that, the agreed price is payable, minus the costs we save as a result.
Your 3D preview includes up to two rounds of corrections. If the preview does not match what was agreed and we cannot put it right, you do not pay anything for it – you get everything back. The details are in § 4 and § 5 of our terms of service.
Customers outside the European Union
We grant the right of withdrawal described above, under the same conditions, to consumers in all countries we ship to, including the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
How a return works in practice
- Declare your withdrawal — by email to support@printableartforge.com or using the withdrawal form.
- Send it back — well packed, ideally in the original packaging, to the address above. Within Germany you can buy a label conveniently through the DHL returns portal (currently from about €6 for a parcel up to 2 kg); you may also use any other carrier.
- From outside Germany — please use a tracked service. Returns from outside the EU must be declared to customs as returned goods so that no import charges are raised; we will send you the wording on request.
Arrived damaged? Then we bear the return costs, wherever you are, and send you a free return label. Write to us with a few photos at support@printableartforge.com.

Transit times are the carrier's usual times. Customs clearance outside the EU can occasionally add a few days.
Personalised and custom work

Customs and import charges
Deliveries within the European Union are free of customs duties. These are not included in our prices or shipping costs and are payable by the recipient on delivery.
Packaging
Hand-painted statues and figurines are packed carefully with protective material so they survive transport undamaged.
Transport damage
If a parcel arrives damaged, please contact support@printableartforge.com with photos of the packaging and the product. The sooner we know, the easier it is to settle with DHL — ideally within a few days. We will arrange a replacement or refund promptly, at no cost to you, wherever you are.
This is expressly not a deadline: your statutory rights remain fully intact even if you contact us later.
